Getting a cancer diagnosis, whether for yourself or someone close to you, sets you on a journey that will lead you in many different directions. The needs of cancer patients are incredibly diverse. Beyond the immediate medical requirements that need to be addressed, there are also logistics that need to be figured out and emotional and financial challenges that lie ahead. Knowing where to turn to get the answers that you need is half the battle, and fortunately there are extensive cancer resources and communities that exist to make finding solutions easier.

One of the top organizations that we’ve found for helping to navigate cancer and its challenges is Triage Cancer. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing information and education on cancer survivorship to patients, their families, and their caregivers.  The information that they provide covers the full range of issues that are likely to be faced, including treatment options, financial resources, psychological needs, and long-term planning. Triage Cancer publishes a monthly newsletter filled with information about upcoming events, educational and financial resources, and blogs written to make the world of cancer care more accessible.

The American Cancer Society’s website is also full of extremely helpful information about everything from finding support groups and treatment centers to exercise and nutrition in order to keep your body in the best possible condition for dealing with the disease. Whether you are looking for information that is specific to your disease and the therapies that are available or looking for help on how to manage insurance issues, the American Cancer Society can help.  They have been helping cancer survivors for over one hundred years.
